  2. As a kid, I remember watching Space 1999 – My strongest memories are of the Eagles, the staple-gun phasers, and one episode where an alien race agrees to take one of the Moon-base’s crew back to Earth. It was kind of terrifying – at least that’s how I remember it…

Not sure it should be in the top 10, but maybe deserves an honourable mention…

    • I thought about adding Space 1999. But somehow I assumed it was British.

  5. “I adored Terminator: The Sarah Connors Chronicles”

You’re not the only one. Fantastic series and a whopper of an ending. I just don’t think enough people caught it on its’ first run. Really… one of the all-time best. I miss this show tremendously.

Add to this… Dark Angel, Sliders (really the first 2.5 seasons because after that, it fell apart…), Land of the Lost (I know it was a kids show but it had a little bit of everything), Roswell was also very good for the first couple of seasons (before they leathered-up the stars of the show). I think these shows had their respective impacts on the industry (though not necessarily the public).

You have a couple of soap operas in DS9 and Babylon 5. I guess this is a matter of personal preference. I love sci-fi and simply couldn’t make it past the 1st season of Babylon5 or the 3rd season of DS9.

Interesting thing about LOST… I tried watching it again a second time and found it very difficult. Loved this show during the first pass but harder to watch the second time around knowing what happens to certain characters (how they change and later… they all die in a kind of slow-motion jump-the-shark way that sneaks up on you) and having the Island segment constantly interrupted with character intros of their past.

  6. great list. I just finished watching Dr. Who and wondered what is considered the best American Sci Fi Series. I’m not surprised at ST as #1 (I love the show too), but I prefer B5 or BSG for their story telling.
